Small, Robin - Nietzsche and Rée: A Star Friendship

Friedrich Nietzsche and Paul Rée were close friends for about seven years. Although they saw little of each other for long periods during that time, maintaining their friendship through correspondence, their personal interaction was the crucial element. Rée later told a friend that Nietzsche was much more important in his letters than in his books, and more important again in conversation than in letters.¹
